Chemical Dependence – Understanding Addiction DVD focuses on the causes, symptoms, and treatment of an alcohol or drug problem. Substance abuse is rampant in the United States and around the world. It causes untold misery for the individual sufferer and their families. This alcohol and drug abuse DVD explains why some people are more susceptible to these substances and therefore are more likely to become addicted than other people.
It also describes the various neurotransmitter receptor sites that become hijacked by these illicit substances which then fuel the addictive process, and addresses both primary addiction and 12-step recovery, and the issue of self-medication and its appropriate treatment. I believe most people begin to use drugs and alcohol by experimenting due to peer pressure. Every culture has certain intoxicating drugs that are known, some legal and some that are not.
I believe most substance abusers are self-medicating because of a psychological, chemical or emotional issue that they may not know about.

A review by a therapist about this psychology video. I use this video regularly to help my clients understand alcoholism and other substances of abuse. Feeling out of control affects the whole family unit. Jef Gazley clearly and systemically breaks down both the behavioral and bio-chemical aspects of addiction. His use of charts and visual aids is excellent, resulting in a clear, concise presentation.
